I am using OBS Studio on Windows 11 to record a bug demonstration and would like my mouse clicks to be visible in the recording. For example, I'd want a visual effect like a colored circle to appear when I click the mouse.

Is there a built-in feature in OBS Studio to show mouse clicks while recording? If not, is there a plugin or third-party tool I can use?

  • Did you try to ask in some OBS forum, or file an enhancement request? I don't know the answer, but I would expect such a feature to exist. When recording a screencast on my Android mobile, I can see the taps I made...

I don't know if OBS Studio has such a feature. But Microsoft PowerToys will allow you to highlight mouse clicks.

PowerToys -> Settings -> Input/Output -> Mouse utilities -> Mouse Highlighter

You can specify different colours for left and right click, size and fade durations:

Addendum:

If the mouse highlighter isn't shown in OBS, make sure to enable the Show Cursor property. And apparently you should use the Display Capture method.

Not a solution but maybe a work-around (if the issue is not related to pressing the control key):

You can change the setting to indicate where the mouse cursor is when pressing the control key (I set if to locate the mouse cursor in a multi-screen environment). So you could press the control key just before you click to indicate where and when you clicked.

In a German Windows the setting looks like this (highlighted):

    Pressing ctrl at the same time as clicking gives a different behavior (open link in new tab in chrome) if the precise moment of the click is important in the recreation of the bug this might cause issues.
